After many days of random Disney stories I never thought the LAST DAY would be the Lilo & Stitch one. Oh well save the best for last? December 24. “Holiday Mischief with Stitch’
This story was released with a plush set in a big hardcover book on the Disney Store online shop before and has since been released in a few advent calendars and paperback books this year I’ve noticed. I’m pretty happy to FINELY see the story inside since I wasnt going to buy that pricy set back in the day. (here’s a box opening of the book / plush set here if you want to see what it looked like) The cover from 2018′s hardback is quite different!
I saw a larger, more fancy advent calendar that featured this story for 20 bucks but ended up finding a discounted smaller one at aldi for 5 bucks. Same story, just tiny and cheaper- win. Like most Disney books, the people working on them don't seem to look at canon content. This is a very different holiday then what we were shown at the end of Lilo & Stitch and the series episode, ‘Topper’ by the tree. And this one is ‘supposedly’ Stitch’s first holiday on earth. Yet sadly there is no Jumba and Pleakley experiencing the season! They aren't even mentioned. BUT it does have Cobra Bubbles and a rare mention about his family and home. That’s pretty fresh since he’s such a mysterious guy. Stitch also learns about other winter holidays outside Christmas too.
I tried my best with the lighting but I hope you guys can make out the words well enough and enjoy the story below!
My book has a error, look at that thing on Stitch’s face lol
.....but Lilo aren't you missing some family...err?
Breaking the fourth wall time ... it made more sense when it came with a plushie in the set!

Mack and Lela is LITERALLY so canon. Also I feel like complicated(tm) is a good way to describe GMW overall, haha. It certainly was a tv show that aired. I haven't seen some of the stuff on your ships list but the stuff that I have seen is extremely good so I trust your taste completely. Have you done any fun holiday stuff this season yet? - your GCWCA Secret Santa <3
I have not done much holiday stuff this year :( Part of that is covid reasons, because normally a lot of my family gets together for Hanukkah but we didn't do that this year. I did go to my grandma's house one day to celebrate though and that was fun. But part of it is just there's no kids in the house and my dad doesn't want to do things and I'm not gonna do them alone so we didn't even light the candles.
I've been watching a few holiday movies (mostly just the ones from movie nights) so that's been fun.
My dad got the tree out yesterday and usually my brother and I would decorate it together but he doesn't live at home rn so I'll probably decorate it myself. I bought a few Disney Channel ornaments (I put a picture in the merch channel if you didn't see) so I'm excited to put those up! Usually for Christmas we go to visit my great aunt and the cousins but some of them are not vaxxed so uhhh we'll see what happens with that I guess.

So, Shrek
In honor of Shrek turning 20 today, lets take a quick second to explore the legacy of Shrek.
On April 22nd, 2001 the world changed forever with the release of Shrek. A green middle finger pointed in the direction of the Disney company and Michael Eisner Shrek captured the popular imagination. It begins as all great movies do, by flushing an outhouse.
Jeffrey Katzenberg was the head of Walt Disney Studios and Animation under Michael Eisner for many years and by all accounts worked his tail off to help make that studio great. However Michael Eisner wouldn’t promote him even though he kept saying he would so eventually a very frustrated Katzenberg left Disney and started his own studio with David Geffen and Steven Spielberg called DreamWorks SKG. Katzenberg’s bonuses were then withheld, it went to Court, it was a whole *thing*. (This is a simplification there are several hundred page books about this)
Shrek tries to set itself apart by applying cynicism and a bit of crassness to the traditional Disney formula, which seems simple enough as a gimmick however if you examine some of the real life drama that was happening while Shrek was being made suddenly Shrek becomes a lot meaner. (Lord Farquad is a caricature of Michael Eisner) (Also go on and say “Lord Farquad” out loud if you haven’t recently).
Initially DreamWorks’ plan was to hire a bunch of animators out from under Disney and start making takeoffs of things he knew were in the pipeline while also making traditional hand drawn “boys adventure” animated films, which was an arena Disney had struggled in. Working on Shrek was considered a punishment at DreamWorks and allegedly 4 million dollars worth of animation had to be redone when Mike Myers realized that Shrek needed to have a Scottish accent. Shrek, in many ways, is a film for parents. The venom-laced barbs at Disney’s image and commercialism are aggressive and especially funny in hindsight, considering how over marketed Shrek became. Lord Farquard perusing bride choices in bed with a drink is an image I didn’t understand as a child, but knew adults thought was funny. For many children, though, Shrek was their introduction to the fairytale mythos and for some older children it was their first foray into subversion. Fiona killing a bird during her princess moment is ballsy and it feels dangerous. Shrek was also released in 2001 to compete with the Pixar movie that year Monsters Inc. (They did this many times, like Antz and SharkTale)
The anti-Disney sentiment is one that continues throughout counter-culture (here’s looking at you, Banksy) but I can’t help but feel that Shrek is the last gasp of something that was lost. Obviously the American zeitgeist was changed forever on September 11th, 2001. Suddenly the restrictive and clean Disney values seemed comforting and safe for many. Even Shrek 2 conforms to more fairy tale norms and isn’t as pointed as Shrek. Part of me wonders if Shrek is so nostalgic to folks because it’s a last gasp of a simpler time. Then the marketplace was flooded with Shrek content. Between sequels, tv specials, merch, tie ins, and then winning the inaugural Oscar for best animated picture it seemed like Shrek was here to stay. However, many folks became tired of Shrek and it became an incredibly popular meme property. People were modding video games to add Shrek into them, playing All Star in seemingly random places and groups upon groups of memes by and for people who love, hate or just want to laugh at Shrek. Through the internet Shrek has cemented itself in culture. (If you haven’t please check out Carlye Wisel’s podcast Very Amusing, and her ongoing quest to make Shrek into a Hanukkah icon)
I was starting to find my anthropology/history lens cluttering my view of the movie so I asked a colleague of mine, Jeffrey Tardiff, why he loved Shrek so much. His answer was kind of eye opening, honestly, “Shrek is a true fairy tale. It's the antidote to Disney princesses—depicting love at its best, worst, and greenest. Though Shrek is the focus of the franchise, Fiona is the story. She's a victim of years of abuse and trauma, yet she's able to reclaim her life, embrace who she is inside, become the self she sees, confront her family and her abusers, and still manage to start a new life with her true love.”
Maybe we’ve all gotten too cynical, too burnt out on Shrek and its marketing machine. I think it became popular to hate because it became the very thing it was parodying - an over marketed fairytale. But revisiting for this piece I was repeatedly caught off guard by the joy that exists in these movies that came from such a spiteful place. (The first two especially) There’s a lot of love and important lessons hidden in this weird corporate amalgam. I guess, you could say, much like an ogre or an onion, this film’s legacy has a lot of layers.
I’d like to thank Jeffrey Tardiff, coworker and Shrek guru for his remarks for this piece.

@darkrevels sent 💘 + bird volcano xoxo
send me 💘 + A SHIP and i’ll tell you—
where they first met and how
At UA after classes. She was a couple days from actually starting school proper (she and the other transfers had to do some supplementary lessons) so they met one night when she was leaving campus. He was just hanging around with Dark Shadow and a smoothie and he accidentally spooked her. They got to talking and she sort of made the decision right there that she wanted to be his friend! *Note: Our first interaction was going off the idea that the transfers started after the Dorm Move which is no longer canon, but their conversation basically remains unchanged.
how long their ‘flirting’ phase was before feelings got involved
They did the friends to lover dance, so they didn’t really have a flirting phase. If anything, it started after they decided to date.
who fell for who first ( if applicable )
Fukumi did. She was so impressed by his skills as a fighter and she found him to be such an interesting person. She loved talking to him and learning from him. She started to take interest in his life and interests, and somewhere between him helping getting over her fear of the dark and finding out he wrote poetry did she start to think that it was more than just a friendly thing.
where their first date was and what it was like
Their first real date happened after they made the decision to get together. He took her to a quiet little cafe with a sort of dark vibe (a place that he liked) and although she felt a little out of place there she had a lot of fun. After the cafe they went for a walk in a park until it got dark and then they stargazed for awhile.
who asks who out and how ( with a sign? spelled out on a cake? just a simple ‘will you go out with me’? )
It was a sort of... Okay, so it was his birthday and she got him some really meaningful and sweet presents and FIRST of all, he hugged her real big and her heart went WOOSH. After that they went outside to talk a bit more and Fukumi eventually ended up confessing that she had a crush on him, and he immediately came back at her and expressed it was mutual. And it was pretty nice and effortless and sweet.
who proposes first
Tokoyami proposed.
if they keep / kept their relationship secret or let everyone know right away
Not really. Tokoyami is a private person by nature, but if asked, neither would really deny that they’re together. Fukumi told her friends right away. But no, their relationship is by no means a secret.
where the proposal happens and how ( kiss cam at a baseball game? on a hillside surrounded by ducks? at a disney park? )
Okay, look at Fumikage Tokoyami and tell me to my face that he wouldn’t do an absolutely stunningly romantic and dramatic. It involves him giving a very personal and loving speech that reads like poetry. It took place when he was visiting with her family in Hawaii when she took him to a black sand beach.
if they adopt any pets together
I think that once they have kids, they end up with some sort of pet. Like one cat, or one dog. Nothing too crazy. Fukumi grew up with a cat, but I see them more leaning in the dog direction.
who’s more dominant
I think they’re pretty equal. She is more... Loud, I suppose so she a bit more forward and commanding, but they really do just... they’re equals. Romantically, Fukumi takes more initiative.
where their first kiss was and what it was like
See their ask out story. Fukumi made her point about how much she liked him by giving him a kiss. He can’t exactly kiss in the same way that she does but he did what he could immediately following.
if they have any matching couples stuff ( mugs? sweaters? pillowcases? )
I mean. They have the same pillowcases because they’re from a set? I don’t think having matchy stuff is really their style, but they do wear each other’s merch.
how into pda they are
Fukumi is more into it, and Tokoyami isn’t into it as much, and she is very understanding of that. They most they’ll do in public is hold hands for a moment when they first see each other in a place or something. Sometimes he’ll put his arm around her waist while standing with her. It’s pretty chill.
who holds the umbrella when it rains
Dark Shadow, of course.
where their usual ‘date spot’ is ( if applicable )
Outside in the UA courtyards. They love to have little picnics out there, or go stargazing together. They sometimes go back to the little cafe the ywent for their first date, but nothing beats cuddling on a blanket under the stars.
who’s more protective
I think it’s a pretty equal standing, especially after everything they’ve been through. He is more emotionally protective and she is more physically protective. But at the end of they day, they’d each take a bullet for the other.
how long it is before they sleep together ( can be as in ‘had sex’ or as in ‘shared a bed’ )
They didn’t share a bed consistently until they got their first apartment after graduating. They’d napped in the same bed before (usually during visits to the other’s house when not in school) or the odd occasion where they’d fall asleep while hanging out on a bed in the dorms.
if they argue about anything
Hmm not that much honestly. I think that by the time they’re adults and living together they’ve been through so much that they really are just in sync with each other on serious issues. They might bicker about music tastes or whether or not it’s appropriate to listen to All I want For Christmas is You in June. And maybe when their kids are born there’s a bit of concerned arguing about parental things, like differing approaches to things. But they have a lot of respect for each other and can handle arguments well.
who leaves more marks ( lipstick, hickeys, scratchmarks etc. )
Fukumi and no I will not elaborate further. (Don’t ask Tokoyami what that mark on his neck is he will be unable to speak for the next hour and a half.)
who steals whose clothes and how often
Fukumi definitely takes a lot of his jackets or sweatshirts. She has one in particular that she keeps trying to return to him but he keeps giving it back to her. She doesn’t NEED to borrow his stuff, she’s never cold... But they smell like him and they make her happy... Despite the fact that most of the borrowed clothes are somber and black.
how they cuddle ( spooning? facing each other? )
Typically face to face. Fukumi likes to see him when they cuddle. She’s snuggle up close to his side and stroke his cheek.
what their favourite nonsexual activity is
They have a few. Playing music together, playing DND with friends online (or in person) or just. Reading. They sit together and read. Sometimes he’ll read passages to her and she’ll get excited about what she’s reading... They just like to enjoy each other’s company while reading.
how long they stay mad at each other
Not long at all. Neither of them are the type to stay angry. Tokoyami is probably a little bit more... Uh? Angry? But it’s not by much.
what their usual coffee / tea orders are
Fukumi gets something with caramel in it, and Tokoyami usually gets something that comes with a straw, but he does get special Apple Ciders in the fall.
if they ever have any children together
YES, these are their twins:
They’re fraternal twins. Hoza is the younger twin and he has some breathing problems. His quirk is having the ability to breathe fire and smoke. His quir kis called Phoenix Breath. Mitsuko is the older twin and her quirk is basically a Dark Shadow type being, but it’s made of fire and it thrives in the light. The twins are very close and eventually go to UA like their parents.
if they have any special pet names for each other
Fukumi calls him Tokkun. She always has, always will. She also calls him ‘babe’ or ‘bab’y later on in their relationship. He calls her “Darling” and “My Love” when they’re home and alone.
if they ever split up and / or get back together
I’m gonna say no. They’re so solid.
what their shared living space is like ( messy? clean? what kind of decor? )
It’s a really nice house. It’s pretty big and well furnished. It has a pretty gothic aesthetic but it also features a lot of warm colors. It’s well kept (they have a house keeper) and it’s a pretty private residence. Despite the nice size, they don’t often host people.
what their first christmas / hanukkah / etc as a couple was like
They’d been together for a couple months, so it wasn’t TOO crazy, but she was pretty sad about not being able to leave for Christmas to be with her family, and he was very sweet to her for it, giving her lots of attention. He’s a holiday boy, so he treats her real nice.
what their names are in each other’s phones
She is simply “Fukumi” in his, practical so he can find her easily in his phone. He is listed as 🖤Tokkun🖤
if they have any ‘couple traditions’ ( buying a new mug for their collection every year? baking every friday evening? )
They go pretty hard for Christmas and they each get the other an ornament for Christmas (as well as normal Christmas presents) and that’s primarily what they use to decorate their tree.
who falls asleep first and who wakes up first
Fukumi goes to bed earlier and wakes up earlier. He’s a night owl and she’s an early bird. But they’re both okay with this arrangement.
who’s the big spoon / little spoon
Tokoyami is little spoon mostly for utility reasons. Beak on the back of the neck? Not always super pleasant.
who hogs the bathroom
Fukumi, but she doesn’t really have an issue if he’s in the bathroom doing what he needs to while she showers or whatever.
who kills the spiders / takes them outside
They are products of their friendship with Nomiko and neither kill spiders. Whoever finds the spider either just leaves it or takes it outside.
